"Then Sings my Soul (Volume 3)" is such a wonderful read that it touched my soul! It is the history of many of our beloved hymns. Upon reading this book, I decided to pick up the other volumes as well. If you are looking for a blessing, this is the book for you. I found many of the excerpts from this book very enjoyable, and I hope they are for you as well. I pray that they are a blessing for you and that you decide to pick up this book!


"About half an hour before his departure, none of his family expecting to his voice more, he opened his eyes and with a smiling countenance said, 'Dying is sweet work!...' Then with a dying voice he continued, 'Glory, glory! Home, home.' till his voice failed, and with a smiling countenance he yielded up his spirit into the hands of his heavenly father about half an hour before seven o'clock in the evening.[sic]" (page 87)


"I grieve to leave my work for the Master...and all whom I love," he said... "but it is infinitely more precious to me to be with Christ than all besides." (Page 121, regarding the death of George Frazer)


One particular hymn written by Annie Johnson Flint has such a powerful story to it that I sat and sobbed. This hymn played a role in the survival of a missionary, Darlene Rose. Darlene and her husband were interred into a POW camp during WWII, where her husband perished. She later wrote of her time in the camp, "In desperation I poured my heart to the Lord... When there was no more tears to cry, I would hear him whisper, 'But my child, my grace is sufficient for thee. Not was or will be but is sufficient.'" (Page 147) Two weeks prior, Darlene said the Lord had laid it upon her heart to memorize "He Giveth More Grace" by Annie Johnson Flint.


Story after story of the grace of God and the faith that these people had is sure to touch your heart. It might make you feel about two inches tall and like a lowly worm, undeserving of grace, but ever so glad that you've been given! A must read for sure.


I will admit I didn't 100% agree with the personal views of the Author that was included at the end of the book. But I enjoyed the book otherwise and will be picking up the rest of the series.
